With All My Heart

2 Feb

Give a gift that gives twice this Valentine’s Day. The With All My Heart Gift Set by World Vision is perfect for any female in your life, and 30% of the proceeds supports World Vision projects that help improve the lives of women and girls around the world.

The gift set includes the a t-shirt, card, soapstone heart from Kenya, and Tagua heart necklace from Ecuador. The soapstone heart was inspired by Pauline Ntombura in Kenya. “Over the years of mining and producing soapstone products she has established a workshop which now employs more than 800 people.” The heart necklace “was created at an economic incentive program for sustainable harvesting. The Tagua Nut, commonly known as “vegetable ivory”, received its name from the ivory-like color and texture. This heart is colored using natural plant dyes to create the rich red shade.”

For only $60 for the entire set, which comes in a beautifully wrapped red box, this gift set is well-worth the cost and the impact. Buy yours here.

Nips or no nips?

1 Feb

Do you ever go braless or wear a thin bra? Are you ever concerned with your nips standing at attention after you catch a chill? I. Do. And. I. Am. Not. I have small breasts and often go braless. It is freeing and comfortable! I don’t really mind the nips showing when I am cold…of course, that completely depends on the situation (at church or with a male friend struggling with sexual temptation, probably inappropriate, don’t ya think?!)! Though, what happened before bras? There were probably nips all over the place! Culture and Society often formulate our opinions regarding social situations. I am more of a “go-against-the-grain” type of chic, and therefore, question social acceptable or non-acceptable scenarios. What do you think? Nips or no nips?

This suit by We are Handsome would go well with my wolf sweatshirt, don’t ya think? Man, sometimes my nerdy side really comes out…

My sister got me a light faux fur vest for Christmas, so, of course, ideas for outfits have been beaming through my head. I love it! I found a couple outfit inspirations/ideas to share…

Raleigh Denim + the CURATORY

12 Dec

I’ve heard of Raleigh Denim in the past, but I recently explored their site to learn more about their jeans and their process. Raleigh Denim is an apparel company with a mission to produce quality jeans using local materials (NC has a long history in the textile industry) and traditional construction methods (i.e. no mass-production machines, only vintage sewing machines). Each pair of jeans is inspected by the owners, Victor and Sarah Lytvinenko, who hand-sign each pair that makes the cut. Each pair also receives a leather patch with a hand-stamped edition number. It’s all in the details and the personal touches…

Within the Raleigh Denim workshop on West Martin Street in Raleigh exists the Curatory: a boutique that carries a lovely collection of items made on-site, including Raleigh Denim jeans of course, and other goods made by selected artisans. Shop local this holiday!

Saturdays Surf NYC

9 Dec

Do you live in New York City? Have you been to Saturdays Surf NYC, an apparel company/art gallery/surfboard retailer/coffee shop (amazing combination, right?!)? It opened in August 2009, so, sadly, I left New York before its existence and just recently discovered the shop while browsing the web. It sounds like a pretty rad place:

“In addition to clothing, the up-front espresso bar serves their own blend of La Colombe coffee brewed by some of the best baristas in the city. Out back, the fully planted yard acts as a wood-decked sanctuary from the streets. It is a place to enjoy your coffee, hang out with friends or have a quiet meeting…In the years since Saturdays opened, it has served as a hang out for some of New York’s most influential artists, surfers and thinkers, all of whom have helped redefine what it means to live, work and surf in New York City.”
