Henry is the adorable 2-year-old boy I nanny. He loves cars, especially Lightning McQueen, firetrucks, and diggers. He has the funniest laugh out of any kid I know. His father, Aaron Vandemark, is the award-winning chef and owner of Panciuto, a fine dining Italian restaurant in Hillsborough, North Carolina, so it is no surprise that Henry eats the best meals a 2-year-old has ever been served: soft shell crab from Harper’s Island, duck and sweet potato ravioli, and sauteed asparagus drizzled with olive oil. Nonetheless, like any other two-year-old, he also loves ham and cheese sandwiches, yogurt, pickles, popcorn, and chocolate.

“I’m that same David Crockett, fresh from the backwoods, half-horse, half-alligator, a little touched with the snapping turtle; can wade the Mississippi, leap the Ohio, ride upon a streak of lightning, and slip without a scratch down a honey locust [tree].” Jamie Crockett is not related to Davy Crockett…I don’t think…but that quote applies to Jamie as well, mainly because she is not your typical human being, and I’m pretty sure she has supernatural powers.

I’m starting a new feature on my blog: HELLO my name is. I got this idea from another blog I randomly came across called The People’s Parables where Elizabeth Brown shares the story of people she’s met along life’s “extraordinary adventure.” Every so often, I’ll introduce you to someone in my life whose made a big splash or maybe just a little ripple but in either case an impact.

To start us off, meet Lauren Moon or just “Moon.” It’s perfect that her last name is moon. She is an extremely bright light but does not blaze for attention or approval and will not burn you. She’s humble and loyal. Did you know that when you look up at the moon, you always see the same face? That’s, Moon. She will always show you her true self, no matter who you’re around or where you are. She. Is. Funny! Now, humor isn’t really a quality of our earth’s natural satellite, but when you “moon” someone, a lot of people think that’s funny…so I guess her name kind of correlates with her humor? Ok, maybe a stretch, but the girl is hilarious.
