a hoot a day

4 Jan

I LOVE owls! They’ve been a theme in my life (for some reason), especially this past year. I’m drawn to their big eyes, crazy noises, and fluffy feathers, as well as their symbol of wisdom. I ran across Jen Peters blog “a hoot a day” thanks to Ellie Snow over at mint. Jen is a graphic designer and fellow owl lover, so she decided to illustrate an owl a day in 2011 and share her creations with us! Lovely so far, aren’t they?!

The Sketchbook Project: 2011

So, ironically, after yesterday’s post, I ran across this cool event: The Sketchbook Project! You pay $25 to receive a moleskin and participate in the project. Your sketchbook, along with thousands of others from all over the world, will be exhibited at galleries and museums across the country.  After the tour, all sketchbooks will be entered into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be available for the public to view.

For an extra $20, your sketchbook can be included in the online version of the collection that will accompany the Brooklyn Art Library, which includes high-resolution, professionally digitized photos of your sketchbook. How cool?!

The deadline to enter is October 31st! Join the communitySpread the word!

I love these illustrations by little drawings. They are all done on the pages of Moleskins. I love the idea of carry around a little book and sketching when compelled. Maybe I’ll start…

clothes on lines

8 Jul

Since I was a little girl, my mom always used a clothesline. Today, I continue the tradition! I love the process of carrying the clothes to the line, pinning them up, seeing them blow in the wind, and then taking them down. Seems silly, but it is really peaceful. Fresh air is good for not just your soul but your clothes too!
